Aberdeen Smaller Companies Income
May 2021: An update from co-manager Amanda Yeaman
While there remains optimism for the market outlook, there are areas of concern. The return to normality after the end of the Covid-19 pandemic remains uncertain: travel and leisure still face heavy restrictions; there is still uncertainty about the future dynamics of working from home; and it is unclear how consumer behaviour will evolve. In a global context, supply chain challenges, semiconductor shortages and rising raw materials costs are all headwinds faced by many industries.
Merger and acquisition activity remains busy, as does the pipeline for initial public offerings in the UK, which we do not see ending any time soon. With positive dividend growth and strong corporate results across the Trust’s holdings, we remain optimistic that our focus on companies who are growing earnings and beating expectations places us in a good position to achieve long-term outperformance.
